It’s over. This isn’t easy for either us to say as you’ve been so good to us over the years. Your thriving spirit and unparalleled natural beauty has provided us with some of the best times in our lives. It was because of you we were able to come together (via Tinder’s location-based dating connection capabilities) and quickly fall in love. But, despite all that there’s something else out there for us to discover, and in order for us to do that we have to say goodbye. I guess what we’re trying to say is…
It’s not you. It’s us.
I know you probably don’t believe us when we say that – like we’re just trying to make you feel better for abandoning you for other, more mysterious and exciting cities. That couldn’t be more untrue. Remember that time at Golden Gardens when we made a campfire at sunset and Iza had the first s’more of her life, and no one could believe someone could manage to live 28 years before tasting nature’s most unnatural candy?
That was real, Seattle. You were the reason for that memory and so many others, with your perfect summer nights and your crisp mixture of marine and mountain air. It’s what makes this all so bittersweet. Sadly, though, the fact remains that we are simply headed in different directions, and we just can’t be together anymore.
You’ll do just fine without us, Seattle. You still have the Seahawks and the tech industry and the best goddamn sushi one can get this side of the Far East. We will certainly miss those things and more when we’re lying awake in our tent under the same stars and the same moon, but in a much different place. Try not to change too much, and don’t ever let anyone tell you grey, rainy skies aren’t sexy.
So, we guess this is farewell. For now, at least. We don’t expect you to take us back, but we hope you leave the door open a crack in case we see the world and realize there’s nowhere else we’d rather be.
This isn’t “goodbye,” but it is “see ya later.”
